Privacy Policy
We value your privacy and strive to protect your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, safeguard and share your data when you use lonerecipes.com. By continuing to use the site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described here.
Who We Are (Data Controller)
The data controller responsible for the processing described in this policy is Lone Recipes (lonerecipes.com), reachable at contact@lonerecipes.com. Lone Recipes is a family recipe website run by Chris, a home cook sharing family recipes; it is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Data Collection
We collect personal and technical data only in the following situations:
- Newsletter sign-up: The name, email address and IP address you provide (or that your browser sends) when you fill in the newsletter box on a recipe page. See the Newsletter section below.
- Email correspondence: Your email address, name and whatever you write to us when you contact contact@lonerecipes.com, ads@lonerecipes.com or legal@lonerecipes.com.
- Browsing data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, pages visited, time spent on pages and actions taken, collected through server logs, analytics and advertising technologies.
- Approximate location: Country- or city-level location derived from your IP address. We never ask your browser for precise (GPS) location.
- Advertising data: Information used by our advertising partners to serve and measure advertisements, including inferred interests and ad interaction history, subject to your consent choices.
Browsing and advertising data are collected through cookies, pixels and similar technologies to keep the site running, understand how it is used, serve relevant advertisements and troubleshoot technical issues. We do not require you to create an account and there is no account or login system on this site.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data on the following legal grounds:
- Consent: For the newsletter, advertising and analytics cookies and personalized advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: For keeping the site secure, preventing abuse of the newsletter form, answering your emails and producing aggregated statistics.
- Legal obligations: To comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Data Use
The data we collect is used to:
- Ensure the website operates securely and correctly
- Send you the recipe newsletter you asked for
- Analyze traffic and understand how you engage with our content
- Show advertisements, which keep the recipes free to read
- Respond to your inquiries, advertising requests and legal notices
- Comply with legal and regulatory requirements
Advertising and Consent Management
lonerecipes.com does not currently serve third-party advertising. No advertising or consent-management scripts run on this site, and no advertising cookies are set by us or on our behalf. If advertising is switched on in the future, this policy will be updated first to name the advertising partner, describe the cookies it sets and explain the choices available to you, and visitors in the EU, the UK and Switzerland would be shown a consent banner offering the choices below. Until then, no such banner is shown because there is nothing to consent to:
- Accept or decline personalized advertising
- Manage your consent preferences for each purpose and vendor
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest
Your choices are stored in a cookie in your browser; the banner appears again when that cookie expires or when you delete cookies for lonerecipes.com. You can also control Google's ad personalization through Google Ads Settings. Advertisers and agencies interested in placing ads on Lone Recipes should write to ads@lonerecipes.com.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to measure how visitors find and use the site: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring sites. Google Analytics 4 uses cookies and does not log or store full IP addresses. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Data Retention
We store your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy or to comply with legal requirements:
- Newsletter subscribers: Name, email address and sign-up IP address are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to erase them, after which they are deleted from our database.
- Email correspondence: Kept for as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of the exchange, then deleted.
- Consent choices: Stored in a cookie in your browser until it expires or you delete it.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics 4 user- and event-level data is retained for no longer than 14 months; aggregated reports contain no personal data.
- Advertising data: None. We do not currently serve advertising.
- Server logs: Kept by our hosting provider for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
Data Sharing and International Transfers
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that operate the site:
- Advertising: None at present. No advertising network receives data from this site.
- Google LLC: Google Analytics 4. Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from partner sites.

Contact
Lone Recipes can be reached at three addresses:
- contact@lonerecipes.com - general questions, recipe feedback, newsletter changes and privacy requests
- ads@lonerecipes.com - advertising and sponsorship inquiries
- legal@lonerecipes.com - legal notices, copyright matters and formal data protection requests
Newsletter
Every recipe page includes a newsletter box where you can ask to receive new recipes by email. Subscribing is optional and nothing on the site requires it.
What we store when you subscribe
- Your name and email address, exactly as you type them into the box
- Your IP address at the moment you subscribe
These three values are saved in the site's subscriber database, hosted by Hostinger. If the email address is already registered, the form tells you so and nothing new is stored.
Why we store it
- Your name and email address are used only to send you the Lone Recipes newsletter (new recipes and occasional kitchen tips) and to address you by name in it.
- Your IP address is kept as proof that the subscription was requested from your device and to detect duplicate or automated sign-ups. It is never used for advertising and never shared with advertisers.
The legal basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. We do not sell, rent or share subscriber details with third parties other than the hosting provider that stores the database.
How to unsubscribe or be erased
Send an email to contact@lonerecipes.com from the subscribed address (or tell us which address you used) with the word "Unsubscribe" in the subject. We will remove your name, email address and IP address from the subscriber database and confirm by reply. You can also ask us at the same address to see or correct the details we hold about you.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, mainly to measure how the site is used. Some are placed by us and some by Google Analytics. Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help recognize your browser and measure the effectiveness of our content. We do not set advertising cookies, because we do not currently serve advertising.
Types of Cookies We Use
- Essential cookies: Required for the website to function properly, including the cookie that stores your consent choices
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 cookies that help us understand how visitors use the site
- Preference cookies: Remember choices you make on the site, such as a dismissed message
You can change your consent choices through the banner shown on your first visit, and you may configure your browser at any time to block or delete cookies. Blocking certain cookies may affect the proper functioning of the site or limit your access to specific features.
